Farrowing Time Has Arrived

In General Farm News, Pigs on March 1, 2011 at 8:15 pm

Spring must be close, because the pigs are beginning to farrow. That means that we are playing a little bit of catch up to get the correct number of pigs to houses and heat lamps to piglets, but all works out for the best!~

Baby piglets are just the most wonderful things in the world.  Sows have a complicated and wonderful conversation with them by grunting and snorting and sniffing, and they kiddos seem to be born knowing what she is saying.

We are really hoping that Spring really is around the corner, as we are eager to plant seed for the pigs to graze from in their pastures, eager to get the goat kids out to pasture (when it is warm enough for them) and we can’t wait to get the next batch ranging (outdoor) meat birds started — again when it is warm enough.  Now all we have to do is wait. And gaze at the beautiful little piglets.
